Abstract

Objective: To identify whether overweight is a risk factor for ED in adult patients treated in the outpatient clinics of the urology department at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo, during the period 2022-2024.

Method: A retrospective case-control study was conducted with 168 patients, including 56 patients with ED (cases) and 112 without ED (controls), all treated in the urology department during the period 2022-2024. Various risk factors were analyzed, including smoking, age, and marital status. Statistical analysis was performed using the χ2 test, Mann-Whitney U test, and logistic regression.

Results: The frequency of overweight in patients with erectile dysfunction was 66.1%; the frequency of overweight in patients without erectile dysfunction was 24.1%; overweight is a risk factor for erectile dysfunction with an odds ratio of 6.131 which was significant (p < 0.001).

Conclusions: Patients with ED were five times more likely to be overweight than those without ED.
